45 year old very dull norwegian woman here (who just recently discovered I’m too old to call myself a girl).
When the pandemic came to Scandinavia, we spontaniously bought ourselves a small homestead. Best decision ever! Our house is 200 years old, and full of history. We have mice in the attic, and gigantic spiders in the basement, but we love living here.
I’ve had the dream job (in a bookstore) for many years, and have loved every minute of it. But currently I’m on sick leave, so I try to make time go faster by canning and preserving all the fruits and vegetables from my garden. There’s a lot this year, and I try my best to use everything my garden gives me… Today I’m making pickled cucumbers. It’s very dull, I know. My hubby doesn’t like them, so I’ll have to eat them all by myself. I’ll have have enough pickles for a whole year…
We were supposed to have 3-4 chickens for eggs, but apparently, I have very little self control when it comes to buying chickens. I have about 35 now. And I’m currently collecting hatching eggs, so I can have even more little fluffs for eggs and company. There will be 24 eggs in the incubator by the end of this week
I have sultan chickens, they’re so funny and adorable. And they have the coolest hair style, they look just like the old aunties did back in the 80’s. I also really love waking up to roosters crowing in the morning. I’m not sure if my neighbours love it as much…
We planted a vineyard this year. 3400 square metres. Because of climate change, we can actually grow grapes in Norway now. Who would have thought! So in about three years we can make our very first wine. Wine isn’t so dull, is it? But three years is a very long time, and I’m not very patient. Probably because I’m a gingerhead, they say we have more temper and lower patience than other people. That’s why canning vegetables and making jam is perfect, it’s done in no time. Never tried making banana jam. Is that a thing out there in the world? Will it taste good? I’d love to find a good recipe
European shoe size 40. No bananas today, only cucumbers.
